Dr. Mark Stieg, Dr. John Wachtel, and our team provide advanced care, using leading-edge techniques, with every step tailored to your needs. We respect your individuality and will work with you to find the orthodontic options that fit your life and desires. Our doctors recommend conservative treatment that is comfortable and efficient, and results in a confident and beautiful smile.

We create smiles for all ages, and we offer adult orthodontic treatment, early interceptive orthodontic treatment, and adolescent treatment — which includes cosmetic options such as clear braces and Invisalign® clear aligners.  Our doctors also provide AcceleDent® Aura accelerated treatment, Herbst appliances to correct overbites, and surgical orthodontics. A high-tech office, we use the iTero® Digital Impression System for comfortable, highly accurate imaging for treatment planning.

For 30+ years, we have served our Scottsdale friends and neighbors, and built a reputation for ethical orthodontics with each person’s best interest at heart. You’ll see your doctor at every visit and, though we have three convenient locations, you’ll always see familiar smiling faces, no matter which location you choose!

Today’s a great day to start the journey to a healthier, more becoming smile. Please schedule a complimentary consultation at our Old Town, Central Scottsdale, or North Scottsdale orthodontic office. We serve Arcadia, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek, and all surrounding communities.

Our smiles, and how we feel about them, touch all parts of our lives. When our teeth are straight, we feel more secure; we smile more freely and openly, and our personalities shine!

Dr. Mark Stieg and Dr. John Wachtel understand you are unique, with specific clinical needs, personal goals, and concerns. Because they offer a range of leading treatment options, our doctors are able to tailor each step of treatment to you.

You’ll see your doctor at every visit, so he’s able to monitor your progress, update you on what’s happening, and be available to answer questions. After a fully personalized experience, you’ll soon be sharing a beautiful new smile with the world!

Dr. Stieg and Dr. Wachtel are university-trained specialists in orthodontic care. In addition to their four years of undergraduate education and four years of dental school, they both have had an additional two years of full-time orthodontic residency in an accredited, university-based program.

They are experts at recognizing and treating issues in the alignment of the teeth and jaws. When it comes to moving teeth, even with Invisalign®, it is crucial to remember that orthodontic treatment is a medical procedure. Make sure you choose the right provider for yourself and your loved ones!

Along with our experienced team, our doctors are friendly and family-oriented. We all love what we do and genuinely care about our patients and their families. You are important to us as a person and we’re excited to have the opportunity to get to know you.

Ours is a practice unlike the rest: Here, you are always the top priority, and we want only what’s best for you and your smile. In addition to exceptional clinical care, we emphasize quality customer service, with a focus on making your orthodontic experience one you treasure.

We are proud to offer:
• Ethical treatment recommendations (which includes recommending no treatment sometimes) and advanced, conservative care
• Convenient appointment times and three locations
• Accessible, helpful online services, as well as email and text reminders
• Interest-free financing and flexible, in-house payment plans so you don’t have to stress your budget
• Participation in most insurance plans and the knowledge required to ensure you get the most from your benefits
• Doctors and staff who live in the communities they serve;  we love creating smiles for our neighbors and friends!

As orthodontists, we are here to serve our patients and provide a smile that patients will use to express themselves for a lifetime. However, the orthodontic experience is more than straight teeth and a beautiful smile: we realize that the doctor-patient relationship is based on trust, and we are dedicated to building that trust with our patients. As your orthodontist, I aim for excellence and encourage honest and open communication.

For more than 30 years, families have entrusted us to care for their smiles. It’s an honor to be creating smiles for the second and third generations of some of those original families. We have enjoyed getting to know each and every patient, and creating relationships that last.

Giving Back
I believe in supporting others, and in making our community a better place for all. In addition to supporting education and extracurricular activities for students as a past president for the Scottsdale Unified School District Foundation and the Scottsdale Charros, I now serve as an advisor for both of these organizations.

Beyond the Practice
Our family originally moved to Scottsdale in 1964. I’m proud to live in and serve the community I grew up in. My wife Kathy and I have been married for more than 35 years. We have two children: Kelli, who is married to our son-in-law Jared; and Matthew, who is married to our daughter-in-law Katy. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family. We enjoy college football, baseball, snow skiing, ranching, and outdoor adventures.

Being an orthodontist means more than changing smiles. I have the ability to improve each patient’s function, reduce the likelihood of future dental issues and stress on the face and jaw, and boost their self-esteem and confidence. I appreciate the people who come to us for care and treat each with the same respect, compassion, and empathy I’d provide a family member.

• Bachelor of Arts in quantitative economics and decision sciences – University of California at San Diego
• Doctorate of Dental Medicine – University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine
• Certificate in orthodontics – Boston University

Continuing education is at the core of who I am as an orthodontist. The development of new technologies, methodologies, and products happens at a dizzying rate and it’s essential to assess the viability of each. Our patients deserve proven orthodontic treatment that is safe and comfortable, and delivers a beautiful smile.

Throughout the year I attend multiple local, regional, and national conferences, lectures, and seminars. Additionally, I participate in local dental study groups.

Beyond the Practice
After growing up in San Diego, and completing my dental degree in Pennsylvania and orthodontic studies in Boston, I moved to Scottsdale to join Dr. Stieg in practice. This has been a great community in which to raise my four children: daughters Lauren, Annalise, and Tessa, and son, Andrew. My wife Tarianne and I couldn’t be happier to be here.

Our Commitment to You
Our patients come first! We assess each patient individually, informing them of their options and educate about risks, benefits and alternatives. We will never encourage patients to start treatment before they are ready, nor do we recommend treatment that is unnecessary. We are truly dedicated to providing ethical treatment recommendations and we have your best interest at heart. We stake our reputation on it!

• Invisalign
We are a Certified Invisalign Provider. Consider Invisalign treatment to get the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted — without braces. A consultation with our doctor can determine if Invisalign clear aligners are right for you.

What is it?
Invisalign treatment uses a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign clear aligners are made with 3D computer imaging technology and have been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to administer Invisalign treatment.

Why would I want it?
Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also more comfortable than traditional braces, with no metal or wires, which also usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments. Invisalign treatment also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

How does it work?
You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to their final positions. You’ll visit us about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages nine to 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

• Itero Digitial Impression System
Conventional vs Digital Impressions, No more goop, gagging, or discomfort. Using an iTero scanner, your orthodontist can take a highly accurate digital impression of your teeth and jaw. The new technology completely eliminates the tray and putty impressions, where the experience is comparable to stuffing a big wad of gum in your mouth. The old technique is incredibly unpleasant and frequently results in taking multiple rounds of impressions that can be rejected, broken, or misplaced. The iTero scanner ensures a more accurate impression from the start, resulting in improved treatment and a more comfortable patient experience. Digital impressions also give you the ability to see your teeth instantly in 3D, improving communication during the consultation and treatment process.

How Does it Work?
The iTero scanner digitally captures the structure of the teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. The scanner is a compact, hand-held wand. Once your orthodontist begins the scanning process, it can be stopped and started as many times as necessary. Your mouth is scanned with a radiation-free laser, and in as little as two to three minutes, the laser renders a digitally perfect, 3D impression of your teeth and soft tissue structures. Through digital software, you’ll then be able to follow the progress of the scans, including a 3D model of your teeth on our computer screen. The iTero scanner can be used for any orthodontic treatment, including Invisalign®.
